As the world struggles to get through the fight against its invisible enemy COVID-19 which has affected over 3 million people around the world, many rise in an attempt to help their communities in ways that make hearts move. Toronto Artist Maureen McNeil is one such kind soul who finds herself on a mission of her own…
Maureen has been a self-taught artist for over 30 years, during which time she has produced many beautiful paintings both large and small. She lives by the slogan of “Paint every day and you will get better”, and it is indeed what she does: paints every day!
In her studio, Maureen has created a very sophisticated workshop where she not only paints, but also builds her own frames from start to finish. Every painting that is sold comes with its own custom frame that is uniquely designed to suite it.
Inspired by her sister who works as a nurse in a Toronto Hospital and seeing first hand what the frontline workers go through every single day, Maureen has decided that she wants to give back… That was when she announced her first Facebook give-away to a frontline worker during the COVID-19 pandemic. After the first painting was given to the lucky winner, the spirit of giving could not be stopped in Maureen. By now she has had several weekly give-aways to honour those who are at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 risking their lives to help others. At the end of each week, Maureen blindly draws the winner and delivers the prize to their porch. Since starting her streak of art give-aways, Maureen has made many people smile at the realization that their work is greatly appreciated.
Maureen explains that the only reason she is doing this is knowing, through her sister’s experiences as a nurse, what these workers have to deal with every day as they fight to save those most affected by the pandemic.
It is for the people like Maureen that our world is a wonderful place… It is thanks to her and other folks who step up to recognize and reward those playing such a critical role in our well-being during this trying time, that there are so many smiles on people’s faces…
It us up to each and every one of us to help make this world a better place, and one by one we are succeeding.
AND THE WINNER IS! Thank you to Suse Ferreira for nominating your frontline worker congratulations Sarah Prentice Toronto Paramedic your the winner of “Autumn Cornfields” 😍
